Lone Survivor-Marcus Luttrell

Four Navy Seals embark on a mission on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border to kill or capture a big al-queda leader. 24 hours later only one seal was left alive.

Marcus Luttrell  fought overwhelming odds to survive and tell the stories of how his buddies fought and died vallintly. True American Heroes.

A must read for the real deal on Seal operations in Afghanistan.

Touching the void

This is a story about mountain climbing gone wrong. Joe Simpson and climbing buddy Simon  managed to make it to the top of a 21K peak in the Andes when Joe fell and broke his leg. Bad.  Simon did his best to help him get down but it seemed doomed from the start, then while lowering Joe during a blizzard Simon was forced to cut the rope or be pulled over the edge with him.

You should definitely read this book if you like nail biting stories of survival. It made me realise that I never want to go mountain climbing. I'll stick to the bike.

The Masked Rider

Neil Peart again. This time he's riding his bicycle across western Africa in the 80's. Lot's of bad water and hassles. Good book and quite discriptive, unlike my reviews.
I think I'll stay in N. America.

Ghost Rider-Travels on the healing road

Neil Peart, drummer from RUSH ( a progressive rock band)  documents his time after losing his 19 y/o  Daughter in a car crash and his Wife a year later from cancer. He takes off on his motorcycle  for a time to try to figure things out. A good but depressing read. His world view is decidedly different than mine but i really enjoyed his writing style and his love of adventure.

Another book where Charley Boorman is riding his motor Bike. This time he is doing the hardest race in the world. The Dakar. It goes across Africa, countless kilometers ( whatever those are) and See's plenty of people drop out before the end. He trains, doe's some small races to prepare but what can you do in such a circumstance. Just ride i guess. Read it.

Riding Outside the lines

The 2nd book my Joe "The Metal Cowboy"Kurmaskie. More adventures brought on by riding his bike all over creation and then some. Once again Joe has made me start think about my own biking adventures and where to ride next. That's a good thing.  For more on Joe...  www.metalcowboy.com

Long Way Down

The 2nd Motorcycle  adventure book by Obi Wan and his good buddy Whining Charley. This time they start in Scotland and end up in Cape Town,South Africa . Quite a trip. I saw the DVD and it was really cool. Plenty of wild animal sightings and hanging out with the Natives. One cool part was when Ewan's Wife rode along for a week or so. She had a few off the bike experiences but handled it well.
